Semi-new, semi-expensive toy!
I recently came to the conclusion that all that has to happen for me to purchase a Nintendo handheld is for Nintendo to release the damn thing in the first place, and then for Konami to put out a Castlevania for it. Of course, this is a gross oversimplification of things, but that's the way it seems. Initially, when I got a Gameboy Advance (well, SP, really) the game I purchased with it was Castlvania: Aria of Sorrow. For what seems like the longest time, that was the only game I even had for the thing. Hell, the next game I got for it was months later, and that was Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. But this in't exactly new, is it?
The reson I bring this up is that, more recently, I decided to get a Nintendo DS. There are a number of new games for it that all seem pretty enjoyable which are either out by now, or will be out shortly. More to the point, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow also came out for it, which was when I decided to pick the system up along with the game. That was about two weeks ago. Of course, it's also still the only DS game I've got.
Possibly the best part of the purchase, was that I didn't even have to pay for a good half of it, as when heading out to purchase it my mother stopped me to ask where I was headed, I explained, and she said she'd pay for a good chunk of it as a (slightly) early birthday present. Needless to say, that was pretty cool.
So far I've actually gotten more use of the DS for GBA games (Super Robot Wars J in particular) than for Dawn of Sorrow. This isn't to say anything bad about DoS -- as far as Castlevania games go, this one compares with Symphony of the Night; it's that good, particularly with the inclusion and execution of Julius Mode -- simply... I have more, and longer GBA games, and the DS's screen beats out the SP's for brightness and clarity hands down. I'm really liking the DS, however, and in the near future I hope to make more use of it for actual DS games, whether they be ones that I purchase myself or ones I, er... appropriate from my brother.
